Accommodating Students Under Section 504 and the New IDEA

This presentation addresses a school district’s obligation to provide student accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Issues covered in the presentation include the criteria used to identify a student as having a Section 504 disability, and the implications for the school district once that identification is made, focusing on:

• Grading
• Athletics
• Non-Academic Services

The reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) contains sweeping changes to: the process of developing IEP’s, the content of IEP’s and the discipline of students with an IEP. The second half of the program will be dedicated to exploring these changes.
