Session One:
Math, Myths, and Misnomers—The Hazards of Tenure and Seniority

In this presentation, we will discuss common issues that school districts face in defining tenure areas, calculating probationary periods, providing tenure notifications, and determining seniority for layoff and recall purposes. We will also highlight where the answers differ for administrators, teachers, and classified civil service employees.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Session Two:
Legal Updates for Schools

This year has been a challenging year for schools legally. We have seen changes to labor law, civil service, special education, student discipline, personnel issues, and more. This presentation will provide updates on the most important legal issues for schools so administrators and board members can remain informed about current issues relating to the schools. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a general discussion regarding the issues.

Session Three:
The Intersection of Title IX and Student Discipline

When a potential Title IX violation intersects with the student disciplinary process, educational leaders must be aware of how to apply the required regulatory rules of each process and be aware of the potential conflicts between the processes. This can include the timing and methods of investigation, handling disparate outcomes, understanding the difference between supportive measures and discipline, and the approach to, and use of, student educational records in a Title IX. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion of the issues.
